THEATRE AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY

Theatre students at Slippery Rock University develop their artistry through hands-on experiences in academic classrooms, design and acting laboratories and public performance spaces. Graduates have gone on to flourish in professional careers as performers, designers, administrators and technicians; as well as continuing their education at top-ranked graduate programs.

PERFORM INTERNATIONALLY

Every other year, the SRU Department of Theatre travels to Edinburgh, Scotland to perform in the world’s largest international theatre festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

NEW FACILITIES

Perform in a brand new, state-of-the-art performing arts center, a complex boasting a 753-seat proscenium stage, spacious new scene and costume shops, a 296-seat flexible black box and gorgeous new acting and design classrooms.

BFA IN ACTING: MUSICAL

Another new programming option at SRU, Musical Theatre Performance focuses on the most exciting and ground-breaking musical works from on and off- Broadway, combining SRU’s sterling actor training with vocal instruction in contemporary styles. Students will also work with movement instructors and choreographers drawn from our nationally-ranked Dance Department.

BFA IN ACTING: ACTING

This new and rigorous hands-on actor training program is where students will be steeped in the techniques of Meisner, Ute Hagen and Chekhov, while given intensive training in auditioning and Shakespeare performance. SRU is famous for its cutting-edge repertoire: a mix of challenging new work and boldly inventive stagings of the classics. Our smaller, student-centered program means more performance opportunities for each of our students.
